It is the first book to reproduce the results of studies of sedimentary sequences at the base and around ancient and active stratovolcanoes and on paleoshelves of various structure-facies zones. Genetic interpretation and description of sedimentary environments for surface deposits are based on the studies of volcanic mudflows, alluvium, proluvium, lake and glacial deposits that were situated at the foot of active volcanoes Kluchevskaya, Bezumyznny, Kizimen, etc. Special attention was given to the composition of explosive material, its redeposition and burial. The authors have laid down the criteria for non-redeposited and synchronously redeposited tephra. The typical deposits named of volcanotubidites yave been examined within Cenozoic sedimentary shelf layers from various tectonic zones of Kamchatka. Particulatly interesting are studies of siliceous sequences deposited sequenses ties up with that of the volcanoes. Patterns of volcano-terrigenous beds are described, showing the effect of volcanic eruptions and climate on sedimentation.
